Going LED: Advantages of LED Torches

Conventional light bulbs have been replaced by light-emitting diodes in flashlights during recent times. LEDs have long been used for electric-powered gadgets, but they are mainly used for indicator lights that need minimal power. A company in San Jose, CA called Lumileds Corporation created the Luxeon LED in 1999. This type of LED is a powerful emitter of white light. This made LED flashlights possible, with the added advantage of longer running time and better power than majority of the incandescent light bulbs. In 2001, Arc LS, the first flash light that contained Luxeon LED was released. 

Flashlights are useful tools that give out light from a small light bulb or from light-emitting diodes (LEDs). They are also called torch or electric torch, and they can be brought here online. The housing protects the mounted light source. The housing also includes a reflector shaped like a parabola, a clear lens to protect the bulb, a power switch, and a power source, such as batteries. 

Most flashlights are designed to be held by hand. However, special flashlights have also been developed that can be mounted on helmets like those that campers or miners use. Some flashlights can also run through electromagnetic induction or hand-cranked dynamos. Canada and the United States use flashlights to refer to these portable light sources, but most Commonwealth countries know it as torches or electric torches or torch

LEDs are more convenient because low power levels do not affect the efficiency of these light sources. Thus, they use less energy from batteries compared to normal bulbs. Flashlights that use LEDs can run on one set of batteries for  hundreds of hours. However, the weakness of LEDs is that they are less efficient during high power levels. LEDs are also more durable because they withstand shocks and blows that would have shattered normal light bulbs.Electricity regulates LED flashlights in order to make its light output consistent even when the batteries are losing their energy. Conventional light bulbs become dimmer as the energy from batteries are depleted. 

Most people think that LED-based flashlights do not emit heat. However, this can be misleading. Heat at negligible levels is emitted by LED flashlight at low power levels, but as LED lights become increasingly powerful, the intensity of the heat they emit also increases. However, heat is not emitted as radiant energy so at low powers its negliglble. Most of the heat felt however is created and dissipated by the circuit board present inside the flashlight. This is the reason behind most of the warming of the aluminum body of high-powered LED flashlights / torches.

LED torches provide numerous advantages, among them its durability and cost-efficiency. As technology improves, conventional methods are becoming more and more obsolete as newer, more cost-efficient ways are discovered to provide portable light.
